Hello everyone!
It's been a couple weeks since I posted. I really appreciate you ladies posting--it's nice to have a group to relate to that is willing to share.
My egg retrieval was today. My doc harvested 16 eggs. I was a little worried because only the right side had a good response from the meds with 11 follicles and 2 on the left. My was pretty agressive this time with the follistem--which I 'm very thankful sinc ewe are paying 100% out of pocket.
I'm a little crampy tonight and my tummy is really bloated.
Cross your fingers for me and my little ones in the dish.

Thanks for your feedback kbug and GirlAtHeat. I guess I am just worried and over analyzed. I pray for good luck to all of us in this path and hoping for God blessing. And I know Kbug the waiting is hard but it the end result is worth it all...
Blessing to all and willl be praying to all..

addis09- girlatheart is right. I just had a day 2 transfer because only 1 of our embryos continued to divide. They prefer (if you have more than 1 or 2) to wait longer because that gives them a better idea of the strongest and most viable choices. However, in a situation like mine, we only had 1 so they went ahead and transfered on day 2 because they do seem to do better inside rather than in the dish. Both early and late transfers have their advantages and I think every situation is different.
dottieb- My beta is going to be on August 12th. I think that I am about 7 days behind you. I am taking it as easy as possible. I get so bored. I am still thinking of you!

Addis09 - Day 3 vs. Day 5 transfers are a toss up. It's all based on how the embryologist feels your embryos are progressing.
Some labs prefer a Day 3 and others prefer a Day 5 or even a 6. Or sometimes, if a lab thinks the embryos look good but not outstanding, they'll opt for a Day 3 in order to get the embryos inside the mother -- which they feel is the best place for them to be vs. a petri dish in the lab. BUT...it just depends. There is not set rule and Day 3 transfers don't mean something's not going well. I think ICGL on this site said she had a Day 3 transfer, and she's having twins! And while it's true that Day 5 embryos are move developed (thus increasing your chances of it working), it just depends. There are so many variables. Try not to be too concerned or over-analyze it, you will make yourself crazy. Hang in there!

Hi everyone, I noted a lot has been happening with you ladies while I was not connecting to site the last week. All good with everyone it seems. Dottieb looks like we are running the same time frame although I had my ER on 7/22 -- it seems your experience was much pleasant than mine. They got 9 eggs but 4 fertilized and ET was on day 3 but as I read from Kbug that day 5 is much better ET day??? So I am wandering did they didn't give them enough time to mature.... I was just wandering any one know what is hyperstim and how bad it is...I had the worse pain on my right side the last 2 days and had to go to ER Friday afternoon becasue sharp pain on my abdominal and only gave me pain medics.

The cramps are from the ER. One is fine! I don't think we froze any. They said they would call if freezing was a possibility. I haven't called them b/c I just want to concentrate on the two I have now. When do you go in for your test? 7 more days for me I'm thinking of you. Try and take it really easy.

Hey girls- well when we got there for the transfer only 1 embryo had survived and divided. We walk in and it was on the screen and I said but we were supposed to have 2. Yesterday was a day 2 transfer, and they don't grade the embryos until day 3 but he/she was 4 cells, so they said that was good. I took today off of work and I am just resting. Maybe this embryo just wanted all of the glory to him/herself.
Thank you everyone for all of the support. All of the ups and downs of this process are unimaginable.
dottieb- how are things going for you? I am really really crampy, but I think I still haven't recovered from the ER. DId you freeze any?

Kbug, Dont despair! Lots of people get pregnant with 2 embryos transferred! I know you hoped to have plentiful blasts, but you could very well get pregnant with 2 day 3's. We had highly variable embryo development results with our 4 fresh cycles (from one poor grade d3 embryo all the way to 6 high grade blasts) and on this last one I got pregnant with twins from 3 day 3 embryos of moderately good quality. Keep the faith!
Dottieb, I'm so happy for you and your smooth transfer. Don't you wish the next 2 weeks would just fly by?
Snowie, The video was very funny. I know lots of women who suddenly turn into the mother earth- granola-organic-know-it-all sort as soon as they have a bun in the oven. Very funny. I'm so sorry that you have pregnant people at work, due around when you would have been-- life can be so cruel-- as if you needed to be reminded of that everyday! It seems like you've handled it well so far.
Cristeen- Welcome! I'm so glad you joined. I have loved this site. I actually joined it late in my journey with our last IVF (we did nearly a dozen IUI's, 4 fresh IVF's and 2 FET's), and I wish I had found it earlier because no one can support you like people who have been through it. I guess I have no business here anymore, because the last IVF worked, but I just can't wait to see everyone else's journeys resolved, and infertility's been such a huge part of my life for the last 6 years. I also feel like it's not over til it's over, and I hear them crying in the delivery room. On your first post you mentioned that you feel somewhat selfish wanting another because you already have 3 great kids-- well, don't worry about that for a minute. We all have different circumstances and several people have other kids. I don't think you'll find anyone on this site judgemental of your reasons-- we'll just cheer you on.

kbug- I am sorry for your disappointment. Hopefully this is your body telling you- "hey, I got it covered- one egg- one embryo is all it takes"! Once the transfer is complete- like snowie said- you are pregnant until proven otherwise Try and keep a positive attitude. We are all pulling for each other.

kbug--Just want to wish you a great transfer tomorrow. Try not to be too disheartened. These may be the 2 embryos that work! Will be sending lots of good thoughts your way.
Dottieb---hope that your bedrest is going well. Take it easy as long as you can. An extra day never hurts!
Hope everyone else is doing well. So grateful to have found this site. The support and understanding is wonderful!

kbug - try not to be to discouraged it only takes one. And you dont want to be too stressed out about this because you want your uterus to be a happy place for the growing embryos to stick on to. I know its easier said than done to say "dont stress" or "dont worry" but do what you can and try to keep your mind off of everything ..once they transfer the embryos it is my motto "pregnant until proven otherwise" ;o)

Alright ladies...so not so good news. I am devastated, but we only had 2 fertilize. They did half ICSI and half conventional and we got 1 embryo from each group. They do not want to wait for blasts so we are doing a transfer of both tomorrow. I am so upset because things just weren't supposed to be this way, but I will keep everyone informed. Best of luck to everyone!

cristeen7- welcome to the group. I have found so much support on here, and I am so grateful that I found these ladies.
dottieb- WOW!! I am so happy for you. I will be thinking of you in the next 2 weeks and send lots of sticky thoughts to you.
As for me, today was my ER. They got 7 eggs. I was disappointed at first because there were 14 good sized follicles, but she told me that some were debris filled and they think that it might be my endometriosis recurring already. That really upset me, but all I have for sure is 7 eggs! I am hoping that they were mostly mature and fertilize. I will hear tomorrow and I will let you girls know as soon as I do. Wish me the best!

Congrats dottieb - I will be praying you get your BFP!!!! Just relax and let your little ones do their thing.
Cristeen7- The meds are not that bad. The Lupron gave me hot flashes occasionally and I didnt notice really any other changes once i started the follistim. Except i was hungry ALL the time. Once my follicles started getting bigger I had some pain in my left ovary area but other than that is was all pretty easy... then after ER comes the big dawg shots the PIO. I switched from a 22 gauge to a 25 gauge needle b/c i was getting so sore after about the first 3 weeks. Let me know if you have any other questions I will be happy to share my experience with you. But I only have the one IVF under my belt so I may not beas much help as others on here.

Had a great ET this morning! I had 2 grade AA embryos that were transferred. I got to see on the monitor the whole process- very cool. It looked like two little white dots being put into my uterus. We have 3 that might me viable tomorrow to freeze, we'll see. I go in on Aug.7th for the pregnancy test. Oh, and the embryologist said with the good quality of the embryos I probably have a 30% chance of twins. Yikes, but great!

snowie...thanks for the info. I am really grateful for women who are willing to share. I, too, have these thoughts that maybe I have a better chance because I got pregnant before so easily and even unplanned. Then I remind myself that my body is 12 yrs older now and it may not know what its suppose to do. I try to picture in my head what it will be like to get that BFN or to have the cycle cancelled. Or, even worse, to m/c. I am really sad that you had to experience that. I can't imagine trying to get through that and try again. I work maternity and it breaks my heart when patients suffer loss. I try to encourage them to talk about it and rely on their faith or whatever they need for comfort and strength. I know what to tell them but I wonder if I'll be able to cope myself. I just try to focus on being grateful for what I have and that I am going to give this my best shot. If it doesn't work, my s.o. keeps saying there will be a different plan for us and he continues to tell me how much it means to him that I am, at least, willing to try. What more could I ask for??
Tell me about the meds...did you feel yucky on lupron..what about the follistim?? Been reading too much I think!!

cristeen7 I wish you good luck and lots of baby dust. I know how you are feeling. I was in awe of the whole process myself. I too had a tubal ligation after my 2nd child (mine are 7 and 11) and then I remarried and my hubby has none of his own. My insurance covers IVF 80% BUT we dont qualify b/c I voluntarily had my tubes tied. So it is also 100% out of pocket for us. We both decided we get one shot at this b/c we just can't afford another. I will be 31 in September so my age was not a problem to me (my doctor acts like I am on the edge of the "age cliff") however I was expecting to make like a zillion eggs and only had 10. I too before IVF never had any problems getting pregnant and never experienced a m/c. I think i went into this whole thing blindly b/c of those facts. I ended up with 10 eggs, 8 fertilized, 4 made it to day 5 blast stage. We transferred only one b/c I never had problems getting pregnant and thought it would be best to do only one. I did get pregnant but I m/c and had to have a D&C. I tell you all of this not to discourage or scare you but to make sure you go into this whole thing with open eyes. I was so sure our only problem was getting pregnant and in the back of my mind thought that wasn't actually a problem since both of mine were conceived while on birth control. Anyway dont be discouraged by my story we are going to try with our frozen blasts in Sept/Oct. And hopefully that will work for us. This whole thing can be very overwhelming but this is a great site and the women on here are wonderful. Good luck again :o)

hey everyone...I am really new to this IVF. I start Lupron Aug 13th for my 1st ever IVF attempt. I am 39 and my sig other is also 39. I have three kids 12,14,and 16 and had a tubal ligation right after baby #3. My s.o. never had kids after being married for 17 yrs. (they aren't sure why) We made the decision to try to have a baby together in March and IVF was our best option due to my age. I can't believe I actually ordered my meds today and it is going to start. I am feeling so many emotions. I am an RN and work in maternity...what a blessing. I'm mostly afraid of it not working. Like many of you, we are going out-of-pocket. We have a limit set for ourselves-I do have three other kids to consider. Today, when I realized the meds were ordered, I wanted it to happen more than anything. Never experiencing infertility or failed IVF or m/c, I am scared. My s.o. is a little more subdued and really afraid of this not working. He went through many years of the pg test being negative. I failed my clomid test, my FSH was good but my estradiol was 108 on day 10 so my ovaries may be just wore out. Guess we won't know until we try!! He is so wonderful and I really want to have a child with him...he would make a GREAT father. But I tell myself he is wonderful...child or no child. He loves mine like they're his own. I pray God gives us this chance especially for him. I sometimes feel selfish because of the three healthly, crazy teens I already have. I love this forum...so glad I found ladies who understand...could really use a cycle buddy!! THanks..praying for everyone's miracle babies!!

Thank you Snowie and Kbug! I did more research as well and it does seem that the 5-6 day transfer is better and have a better chance on developing in the uterus. Kbug- good luck tomorrow! Clear your head of things you don't want the nurses to hear once you start going under Lay around for a few days also, if you can afterwards- it helps subside the cramping. So- you will only be behind me by about 5-6 days! Hopefully we will have BFP's together!! Good luck tomorrow.

Dottieb- I had a similar situation. I had 8 embryos and after the intial fertilization they decided I would be a day 5 transfer "unless something changes" is what the nurse told me so I didnt hear from them all weekend (i also had my ER on a thurs) anyhow i called on monday and asked and they said no news is good news. So on tues i ended up with 4 blasts out of the original 8 fertilized. So go with the no news is good news. :o)

dottieb- My undestanding is that waiting 5 days is good news. My RE told me that ideally I would have a 5-6 day transfer the only reason that I would have a day 3 transfer is if the embryos aren't doing well and they think that they will do better inside.
I finally got the news today that I am to do my trigger shot tonight and ER is definately on Tuesday. So no shots or appointments for me tomorrow!!!! I am so excited. Today I had 2 more follicles, so they think that they may be able to get 14 (best case scenario). I am thinking of everyone and sending out wishes!!

Have to wait until Tuesday for the ET! The nurse can't tell me the status of the embryos, which is frustrating. I am assuming since we are waiting 5 days that they are still developing and this is fairly normal. Does anyone have any insight on this??

kbug- As far as I know we still have 7. The nurse said they disturb them a little as possible and the embryologist will let her know Sunday if I come in for ET or wait until Tuesday. I am having my last glass of wine tonight

dottieb- Thank you so much for the helpful hint on th the progesterone. How are the embryos coming?
Well, as for me, I am frustrated and excited because she has pushed my ER back one more day until Tuesday. I keep getting so excited about it and then I have to wait one more day. I am glad that I am making progress and I know that I would rather wait one more day than to go through this again (hopefully this will work and it won't matter, but just in case). But I am SO ready for this to be done already. I will keep you all up on new news. Will be thinking of you all!

I had 13 follicles today (almost double), so my RE has decided that she wanted to push everything back one day and see how much more I could do. I agree I think that I am just a late bloomer. So my ER is now set for Monday 7/27! Keep us updated on your fert reports and when your ET will be. I will finish out today and tomorrow shots then onto my trigger and ER!

dottieb- I am so excited and happy for you! 10 eggs is absolutely wonderful. Be sure to keep us updated on your fertilization reports.
krismn- We had not been able to get pregnant after trying for a year, so we went to my gynecologist and we finally after the whole battery of tests got referred to our RE. She had not even touched me yet, but looked at me in her office and said I bet that you have endometriosis. To which I responded, but I have NO symptoms. She said that many many women have no symptoms and that there is absolutely no correlation between severity of the disease and symptoms. The only way to definately diagnose it is surgery, but then they can fix it while they are in there. This all happened in March and my surgery was in April. Please feel free to ask me any questions and I will be happy to share my experience with you.
As for me, I had 1 new follicle on my right side (the one that has not been cooperating). I am so excited. I must just be a late bloomer. I have not heard for sure, but I am hoping that they will wait for Sunday for the ER because I have a feeling that I can make some more!

Dottie 10 eggs is great. I also had 10 eggs when I had my ER in May and ended up with 4 blasts from it. I transferred one and froze three. So even though i had a m/c i still have 3 frozen blasts and that came from just 10 eggs retreived.
Good luck

Back home at 10:00 after 7;45 ER. Everything went well- beware when you start to go under I think I was telling my life story to anyone in the room Truth serum at its best! The whole experience was fine and they were able to get 10 eggs! My doc had said he predicted 5-10 eggs when we began our cycle. So I'm optimistic with 10. Some might not be viable, but hopefully at least 5 will be. They will call me by noon tomorrow with info. on how the fertilization is going, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

kbug- Thanks for the info. Being so young, your body will be ready to do this! Today was was my last ganirelix and reduced dose of Follistim this morning. My husband has to give me the HCG trigger to trigger ovulation excatlty 36 hours before the ER Thur. at 7:45 in the am. So 36 hours with no shots- YEA!! As far as I know I do believe the follicles continue to grow after stopping the shots b/c there is so much inyour system , my estrogen is almost 4,000 or maybe even slightly higher. I think with me- we have waiting an additional 2 days for ER, the typical ER is right around 11 days in the cycle (that is when you stop shots and the 36 hours begin) I'm sure they wanted more sizable follicles. Mine are at 19-14 and will probably be in the low 20's by tomorrow.
All you need is one egg- remember keep me updated, I'll do the same.

Dottieb- Thanks so much for the encouragement. I am 30 (as of Monday) and my DH is 29. I was diagnosed with Stage IV endometriosis (with no symptoms). I had my surgery in April, and they told me then that IVF was really our only option and that we needed to get started within 4 months at the latest. We almost started a cycle in May, but then changed our minds and decided to have some faith and try on our own for 2 months. Well, now here we are again. We have been off of birth control for 2 years, and I think that our patience is just running thin. I was just so disappointed this am when they told me 6 because I had just hoped for more chances. I am young and I thought that we would have more follicles. The nurse told me that they had been very conservative with my meds early because they weren't sure how I was going to respond and that they didn't want me to hyperstim. I guess this is better than cancelling the cycle due to hyperstim. How many days before your retrieval are you stopping your injections? And do the follicles continue to grow after that? Just hoping that I have some more time to make progress! Thanks again for your help. I am hoping that we both are successful very very soon!

kbug- Hang in there. You'll be suprised how much they grow toward the end. I went today, day 12 and I have 12 on the left and 2 on the rt. with the largest being a 19 and 3 days ago they were a lot smaller. You have plenty of time before sat. Can I ask a personal question? Just because we sound so similar- how old are you and are there any problems you have faced regarding fertility? I am 35, my husband and I both check out completely normal with every test, yet we have been off birth control for years and did chlomid for 9 months will no results. I hope it is just poor timing on our part Good luck- hopefully we will have good results at approx. the same time!

Well ladies I am discouraged and disappointed again today, but I am trying to be hopeful. Today is day 7 and I went for my ultrasound and there are 6 good sized follicles on my left ovary, but nothing measurable on my right. I talked to them and we started very low and not aggressive on the meds because they weren't sure how I would respond. I know that 6 are better than none, but I am still disappointed. I think that we are looking at Saturday for the egg retrieval.
dottieb- I will be thinking of you in the next few days. Good luck on Thursday
addis09- Good luck with the next steps of your process.

Hi there, I was on the disappearing act trying to minister the shots and be the good hostess to family from out of town. Dottieb - I am on day 12 when I started I only had 7 and they were pretty same and was so happy today when most of them were getting there ranging from 23 to 12. Increased in size as well as in numbers. So don't worry u will get there and the number will increase.
So I prep myself for the next phase egg retrieval and the transfer afterwards....praying for all of us!!!

kbug- I am on day 11 and my follicles have been growing at crazy intervals. My rt ovary I have one at 15, and 2 at 10, now my left I have 11 ranging from 10 to 18. It seems taht the docs want follicles ranging from 15 and up to produce good eggs. I have been reduced to 150IU of Follistim for tonight and in the morning- go in for one more b/w and u/s tomorrow and will take my HCG trigger shot tomorrow night, no shots on Wed. and retrieval on Thursday. I am looking at my u/s pics of my day 6 and I only had 4 on the lft and 2 on the rt.all 10's. So as you can see mine grew quite a bit in 5 days- yours will too.
As for the shots and b/w and u/s at this point they all suck! I think I like the shots the most, honestly! The b/w is the worst for me, but it could be worse. As for mood swings I haven't experienced too many emotional roller coasters, I'm sure they will come, though. Although keeping busy is a must- my whole house is spotless and all of my friends are ready for a chat or lunch
Let me know how you are doing- good luck!
Snowie- good luck in sept. thanks for the other site, I'll check it out.

snowie, I am so sorry to hear about your m/c. Thank you SO much for including those numbers in your response. It is so helpful to hear other experiences, because they keep giving me these numbers and I have nothing to compare it to. I know everyone is different, but I like to have a range in mind of what is common. I am just a little nervous because it is all so new, and I appreciate your openess with your experience. I will be thinking of you as you prepare for September.

I am actually waiting right now to get AF again so I can prepare for a FET in September. I did my cycle in April/May. I had 19 follicles (like i said ranging all over in sizes) 10 eggs retreived, 8 fertilized, 4 made it to day 5 blasts stage. We transferred one on 5/19 and I got a BFP on a clear blue easy digital 7dp5dt. I got a BFP beta on 8dp5dt it was 39.5 then 2 days later 73 theen a week later 1941. At 6 week U/S no H/B only yolk sac. Blood work the following Monday showed hCG at over 14 thousand. 2 days later still rising at over 18K and then U/S a week later still no H/B. I eventually had a D&C on 7/2 becasue i did not m/c naturally. Now waiting on AF to start should be end of next week and I can get back on track for a FET with my remaining 3 frozen babies. So sorry for such a long answer but that is where I am at right now.
Dont let the nurses freak you out they are not the doctor.
