AJET- Something you may want to ask your doctor about is the whole 5 days of bed rest thing. See I read its actually good to be up and around bc it keeps the blood flow going to the uterus which is what you want for a successful implantation. So maybe 5 days was /is too long. MY doctor recommends 2 days and then says get right back to normal activities just no heavy lifting etc. Also were you taking a baby asprin each day?

8/19/2009 2:07 AM
One more thing....since I'm pumped full of so many hormones my husband and I are going to cut "the middle man" out and have some good old fashioned baby making fun! It definitely will be more enjoyable than the egg retrieval and bed rest even though I rocked the online poker tables while I was on BR....lol...yippeeee! Wish us luck!

8/19/2009 2:02 AM
lilaquarius-- Sorry to hear that we are both in the same boat. After I got my BFN results, I was really pulling for you to receive a BFP. After hearing that the other 5 embryos didn't make it to blast last week, I had a strong feeling that I would not be receiving the news I was hoping for. I cried most of it out knowing nothing would be on ice. I feel numb, but I guess that is to be expected after 4 years of the same song and dance. My husband and doc are taking it pretty hard.

We are meeting with our doc in a couple of weeks to put together a new game plan. Hopefully we'll have more data on why we have not been able to get a BFP. We purchased two rounds upfront, so we are doing it all over again.

Everyone--thank you so much for your support and kind words. This forum has been a real help through this last round. since we will be doing a round two of IVf, stay tuned for daily bed rest report--I'm quite sure that the doc is going to incarcerate me longer than 5 days.

Well hello everyone. I haven’t been on in a couple of days and a lot has happened.

Liquarious and AJET ~ I am sorry for the BFN. It sucks, that is all there is to it and I want you both to know that I am thinking of you, and hoping that you will find peace of mind.

I want to let you know what’s going on with me. I went yesterday and they called with the following:
Estradiol level was 1435.
My follicles are (1) at 20, (4) that are 14-17, and (3) that are 8-11.
(Not quite sure which ones are the right size, I didn't hardly talk to the nurse today, I only listened to the other problems that I will talk about in a second.)

They had me to do one more shot last night and I went it this morning for B/W and U/S and the nurse noticed that there is something wrong with my tubes. Not quite sure if it is one of them, or both. She said that it could possibly be Hydrosalpinx. That is fluid in the ovary that could be “poisonous” to a pregnancy. She said that she is not 100 % sure, but she took extra pictures so that the doctor could look at them. If that is what this is, then they will freeze my embryos until I get it taken care of. She said that he would also look at it during the retrieval.
Since I have been in the office, I have been doing research on this and of course I am thinking the worst. I read that if you have Hydrosalpinx, then it reduces your success rate with IVF 30 %. The clinic I am going to, for my age, the success rate is 61 %, so that reduces it quite a bit...
This is all I can think about and then I wonder, “Why me?”

8/18/2009 9:26 AM
lilaquarius- I am so sorry. You will be in my prayers. I hope that you get your "miracle" and some peace.

snowie- I am so exicted for you. There is no better feeling than having your doctor be so positive about your cycle. I am very jealous also because you don't have to endure the PIO shots.

Dottieb- We are trying on our own this cycle because our RE says that we still have some effects from last cycle. Then if no BFP then we are doing a more aggressive protocol starting in mid-late Sept. She was very positive about it all and told me that I was fine and not to worry.

8/18/2009 8:51 AM
Dottie- Your doctor only has you do the PIO until 6 weeks? Mine was until he released me to my OB at 9 weeks and I was being told by most that was shorter than what they all did. I was reading most do it for the whole first 12 weeks. Yuo are lucky to get to stop them at 6 weeks. I am going t obe lucky this time as well and not have to do the shots at all and getting the progesterone in suppositry 3x a day ..i dont mind that at all b/c the PIO and the 2ww is the worst part of the whole cycle in my opinon.

8/18/2009 6:50 AM
kbug- I am fine. Feeling fine- just that my rear is quite sore from the PIO shots- only 1 more week to go! I go in for my 4th beta tomorrow. Hopefully will have the 6 week u/s Thr. or Fri.
How are you doing? Are you going to start a new cycle? i'm thinking about you

8/18/2009 6:48 AM
Liquarious and AJET- I am sorry, also. Hopefully since your bodies have been super stimulated with the hormones- the "old" way will be more successful now. I'm thinking of both of you.

8/17/2009 10:20 PM
Lilaquarius & AJET, so terribly sorry for you both. Nothing anyone can say can heal your heart right now. Just know that we are all here for you both to lean on. Go ahead and let the tears flow for now. Hopefully, the days to come will be brighter and a miracle will happen for each of us. Take good care. XO

8/17/2009 10:18 PM
AJET & lilaquaris- I am so sad for both of you! My heart just goes out to you and know you are in my prayers. Thinking of you both today.

8/17/2009 8:45 PM
I am so sorry ladies - I know what you are feeling & I hope you can find the support to make it through this difficult time

8/17/2009 8:07 PM
I am right there with you ajet, mine round two BFN too! Crying and upset all day, tears won't stop. Guess this is it for us, back to the old way and just hoping for a miracle.

8/17/2009 5:59 PM
AJET, I am so very sorry. It's never easy after something like this, but try to keep your head up hun.

8/17/2009 3:48 PM
AJET- I am so sorry to hear you got a BFN. That is not easy to take and i know you are hurting. I am sorry is all i can say ;o(

As for me - I just got back from the doctor and I have good news. I am on track for the FET I start my BCP tomorrow. The doctor feel REALLY good about this time and says that he thiks it will turn out well for us. Since we had a total of four blasts last time and only put one in (and got pregnant but m/c ) he says that he feels two would be a good number this time. This is where I thought I would have the trouble getting my hubby to agree but it was no problem he said ok. YAY 2 going in next time. In addition to that he explained that normally the FET rate is lower b/c the best embryos are transferred the fresh cycle but in my case all four of mine were beautiful looking blasts so that is good. Now the even best part ...he wants to change up what we do with the progesterone and we are not doing the PIO shot WOOHOO. We are doing 3 vaginal suppositories in stead of one suppository and one shot like last time. I couldnt be more happy right now. ;o)

8/17/2009 3:11 PM
AJET--- I am so truly sorry. I've been there myself (as have many of us) and know how much it hurts. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers. Take good care of yourself. Sending you a big hug, too!

8/17/2009 3:05 PM
AJET- I am so so so sorry. I don't wish this heartbreak on anyone. I know how it feels, and it is not fun. Please know that you are in my prayers and I send you big hugs.

8/17/2009 2:57 PM
The results were negative today

8/17/2009 12:15 PM
lilaquarius- Good luck today. I am sending lots of baby dust your way

AJET615- Sending you lots of luck and baby dust today.

Dottieb- How are you feeling?

snowie- How are things for you? What is going on now?

Well, I had my appointment to assess what went wrong on Friday. The RE had lots of hope for us. We are going to try on our own this cycle she wants me to use the ovulation predictor kits and come in 7 days after ovulation for a progesterone level. Then, if that isn't successful (which I am not going to hold my breath) then we are going to start with the next cycle (mid to late Septmember) with a modified flare protocol. She said that the stim. drugs will stay in my system and have an effect for 3 months so that is why she is hopeful for the off cycle, and if that doesn't work out, then when we stimulate next cycle, then there will be an additive effect, so maybe we will get better results. I am keeping my fingers crossed and at least she didn't say I am hopeless yet.

8/17/2009 7:09 AM
All 4 of you girls- BEST OF LUCK- Rub your bellies for the little ones to stick

8/16/2009 8:58 PM
Good Luck on the tests tomorrow ladies!! Lots of prayers for positive results

AJET & lilaquaris- Praying for you both tomorrow and hoping for a BFP!!! I know that Smiles and I have our test on Wednesday.

8/16/2009 7:48 PM
Praying for good news for you girls tomorrow!!!!!

8/16/2009 3:52 PM
AJET & lilaquarius, just wanted to wish you both very good luck for tomorrow. Hope that you both get a BFP!! Keep us posted. Will be keeping you both in my prayers!

8/16/2009 2:06 PM
I'm right there with you lilaquarius. Keeping fingers crossed for us both.

8/16/2009 10:50 AM
Big day tomorrow!!!!!!!!!! Hoping second time is a charm. I'll let you know when I find out...need lots and lots of baby dust since no frozen and this is last time for us!!!

8/13/2009 11:21 PM
Stacyb----Day 6 is still relatively early, so great that your RE raised your FSH meds. Good chance that will make a big difference in your E2 readings and follicle count. You are now on exactly the same dosage of meds that I took, so will be curious to see how it goes. A typical cycle (if there is such a thing) is usually 10-11 days of FSH though some folks go upwards of 15. I know all of us always hope for more eggs, but truth is, quality is much better than quantity. It only takes 1 good one!! Keep us posted. Sending you lots of good wishes & luck.

8/13/2009 6:13 PM
Kbug- I AM SO SORRY! I was hoping so hard for you to be a BFP. I'm thinking about you. Let us know what the doc determines.

8/13/2009 2:54 PM
HappyHeart: Everything is good--taking it day by day. Trying to keep everything in perspective in the event I get a BFN on Monday. Because I'm on so many meds I don't know if what I'm feeling is natural or the Pro and Estro. I hold my breath each time I go to the restroom in the event I see red--so once again....taking it day by day.

8/13/2009 11:30 AM
I am offically off my 5 day bedrest and it feels GREAT! I took a shower and feel like a new women.

AJET and Smiles- hoping for a BFP for all of next week. How are you both feeling?

8/13/2009 9:27 AM
Thank you so much for sharing Wannabeamommy! That is so awesome about the donor. I haven't thought that far ahead...but that it such a great alternative. I am hoping that her follies keep on growing and those levels keep rising!
Last night was my sixth day of this cycle. I started out 150 Bravelle / 150 Menopur. They increased it to 225 of each of 2 days, now I am at 300 of each for these two days.
I hope that my levels will go up, as well as my other follicles catching up! 4 seems like such a low number to do this with. I am just so nervous about this whole process, and I am scared!! The unknown and the roller coaster ride ~ I don't like it.

8/13/2009 2:21 AM
LILAQUARIUS77---How are you doing? 5 days until the big test.

8/12/2009 9:59 PM
All STILLLLLLLLL no AF!!!!! But I see the RE monday so we will see what the deal is. Thanks to all who asked and thought about me

8/12/2009 6:29 PM
Hey girls, been out of pocket so haven't posted in a while though I've been reading & trying to stay caught up. Kbug & Addis 09--so very sorry for the BFN, it's never easy. Hang in there. Hopefully your RE will have a great new protocol for you both.

Dottieb--great news on your numbers! Sounds like things are progressing well. Crossing my fingers for you.

AJET--your bedrest posts cracked me up (LOL)! My RE only says to do 2 days & can take 1 shower daily. Think I may try longer next time though. You've raised the bar!

Stacyb--I, too, took Bravelle & Menapur. I used 150 Bravelle/75 Menapur both AM & PM. Hopefully the increase will increase your Estradiol & follies. You said your E2 was 142. How many days have you been on FSH? Good luck!

Snowie---AF yet? Know you're getting anxious for your FET in September. Won't be long.

As for me, I am doing well for this cycle. Had b/w & u/s yesterday and again tomorrow. Lining & estradiol look great. My donor has her retrieval next week and has tons of follicles going. I will have my transfer around 8/23 or 8/24 likely.

Sending hugs, best of luck, and lots of baby dust to everyone!

Me: 41 (no previous attempts prior to IVF)
DH: 51 (2 kids from previous marriage)
1st IVF: 10 follies, 7 eggs, 4 mature, 2 fertilized, 1 abnormal, txf 1 7cellB on day 3---BFN
2nd IVF: cancelled due to different protocol & too quick of follie growth
3rd IVF: exactly same as the first except txf 1 10cellB on day 3---BFN
4th IVF: donor route, praying for BFP!!!

8/12/2009 4:15 PM
Okay, I just heard from my nurse. My Estridol is 142 and my doctor has increased my Menopur and Bravelle to 4 vials of each, for Wednesday and Thursday and then I go back on Friday. I am so confused by all of this! Has anyone else had to take so much of this medicine?
Just curious.
Sorry to hear the news kbug... try and keep a clear head, and try to relax.

8/12/2009 3:12 PM
Oh Kbug, I am sorry. I know there is nothing that can be said right now to make it hurt any less. I'm hurting for you today. Cry it out, yell it out, and get it out.

8/12/2009 2:25 PM
Well, I got a BFN. I am upset about that, but more upsetting my RE said when she called that the endometriosis has gotten the best of me. I began crying and I asked if I am hopeless, and she said no, but more challenged than she had originally thought. We are having our WTF meeting on Friday. She said that she was going to the lab today to talk with that Dr. to see just how poor my egg quality was, and that she will have a plan. She is thinking that the next protocol should be more aggressive and quick. We will see what the plan is. Thank you so much for all the prayers and support. I will keep up with all of you! Best of luck and baby dust to us all.

8/12/2009 11:48 AM
I'm pulling for ya KBug! Sending postive vibes your way....I hope you get them!

8/12/2009 11:16 AM
Good Morning All!
I am new to this site, but I am reading all of your posts, so I am going to post what's going on with me. I had my U/S and B/W this morning. From the U/S, the nurse said that I had only four follicles, 3 on one ovary and 1 on the other. On Monday, when I went, I had over ten follicles. They increased my meds and I go back today and I only have four??? I asked a ton of questions, and she said that they can't explain why some follicles don't take to the medicine. When I made a comment about only four follicles, she said it's, "quality, not quanity." I just don't know what to think. I thought that I might perhaps have more than just four. I don't think that it's likely that any others will catch up to these that are maturing. Just curious how many follicles any of you started with, and if the four mature to where they need to be, is it worth the whole retrieval process for just four???
I am so confused, and just wanted some of your opinions.
I did want to say good luck to you Kbug...am anxious to see what the results are.
Addi, sorry for the negative results...
And congrats to you Dottieb.

8/12/2009 9:25 AM
Good luck today Kbug!!!

8/12/2009 7:36 AM
Thanks ladies for the support and kind words. I knew it when I started spotting/bleeding just 2 days before the test. It is hard not to get overwhelemed as our hopes get dashed and u get depressed over it.. but I just had to start reading your posting and feel better as we are all in the same boat so to speak.....
So from reading what everyone is posting and previous experiences then doing the 2nd cycle right away might achieve results. My DR want to start with a slightly different protocol... this time will sure try the Accupture. We shall see ....best of luck everyone

8/12/2009 1:04 AM
So I've been talking about using EMLA to numb the area before the Pro and Estro shots in my previous posts. The past 2 nights I have left it on for 90 minutes and I didn't feel a thing. This stuff makes the lupron and follistem shots fell barbaric.

8/11/2009 10:22 PM
dottieb- congrats one more hurdle jumped ;o)

addis - I am sorry to hear your BFN best of luck to you in your future endeavors

8/11/2009 6:00 PM
Addis09- I am also sorry to hear about your news. I too have heard that many women start their 2nd cycle right away. Hopefully it will be in the cards for you.

kbug- good luck tomorrow. waiting for the phone call is the longest. please keep us posted. I'm thinking of you, baby dust your way. Keep the faith, ladies

I went in today for my 2nd beta and the numbers have exactly doubled every 48 hours. I go back on Friday for more b/w and hopefully the end of next week for the u/s. I am really curious is as if we have 1 or 2!

8/11/2009 5:39 PM
So sorry to hear the news addis09. Keep the faith!

8/11/2009 5:26 PM
Kbug- I'm sorry to hear that your HPT was neg. I hope it's just wrong, but if indeed you are not pregnant, I want to share part of my story with you. With our first IVF we had disappointing results with lots of eggs, but many not fertilizing and high attrition-- ended up with only one poor quality embryo to transfer, and I did not become pregnant. But just two months later, with IVF # 2 and very similar protocol, we got 6 high quality blasts (5 day embryos) and I got pregnant with my son who is now 3 y.o. So it can happen.

I'm usually very skeptical of alternative medicine, but I really do believe in acupuncture to improve embryo quality. You might want to try that if you haven't already. And ask your MD about metformin to improve egg quality if you didn't use it this time.

8/11/2009 4:43 PM
addis09- I am so so sorry to hear your news. I will be thinking of you and sending you lots of hugs.

8/11/2009 4:29 PM
Hi all. It has been a while since I posted but it has been a tuff weekend. My test was yesterday and it was negative. It is depressing but God will must prevail. Just keep your hopes up and let us not loose hope it will happen.

Best of luck to everyone.

8/11/2009 4:25 PM
Dottieb - Any news on your b/w? Happy thoughts your way!

8/11/2009 4:08 PM
snowie- I forgot about the fact that mine was a 2 day transfer. That makes a big difference. I always love to hear the success stories. They give me hope! Thank you so much for sharing.

8/11/2009 3:10 PM
Also I forgot to mention I know a lady who got a BFN in may cycle and was right back in it and pregnant by July. So its up to your RE how soon you can jump back in but I think it is ok t odo it again right away.
